Guwahati, Dec. 21: Lajong FC, Shillong, rode a hattrick by Rocky Kameng Mawia to tame 2 Assam Special Reserve Force (ASRF), Diphu, 7-0 in a Bharat Ratna Lokapriya Bordoloi Trophy football tournament quarter-final league match at Nehru Stadium here today.
In a drab one-sided affair, the Lajong men made mincemeat of a hapless ASRF outfit, outplaying the latter in all aspects of the game.
Niwan O. Gatpoh of Lajong opened the account as early as the seventh minute, which was followed by a triple strike by Mawia. He ruffled the net in the 31st, 43rd and 55th minutes.
Foreign recruit James Gbilee enhanced the lead to 5-0 in the 57th minute while Sachin Khongsit and Rohmingthanga pumped in two more in the 66th and 72nd minutes.
Though the ASRF men tried to put some pressure with all out efforts in the last few minutes, the Shillong men went onto the backfoot to defend their castle tightly.
On Saturday, a second half goal by star forward Bulu Jigdung saw Assam Rifles, Tezpur, edge past Assam Police Blues, Guwahati.
After a barren first half, Jigdung struck for the winning goal in the 69th minute.
Tomorrow, Oil India Ltd, Duliajan, will clash with Assam Rifles.
