
A Kurash bout in progress at Nabin Chandra Bordoloi Indoor Stadium in Guwahati on Tuesday, where the maiden Senior National Kurash Championship got under way. Kurash, a combination of judo and wrestling, is of Uzbek origin and a new sport in India. Around 248 players from 22 states are taking part in the three-day tournament, which was inaugurated by Kurash Federation of India president and former Union minister Jagdish Tytler in the presence of sports commissioner Ajay Tewari and Ulfa chairman Arabinda Rajkhowa.
