Guwahati, June 5: Hollywood?s summer blockbuster, The Da Vinci Code, has yet to hit cinema screens in the region but Bollywood?s big one, Krrish, will be screened for a select Guwahati audience a day before its worldwide release.

Rated among the most expensive films made in the country ? the budget was about Rs 50 crore ? the saga of Krrish will unfold before about 1,000 lucky cineastes at the state-of-the-art Pragjyotika on June 22. Proceeds from the special screening will go to Divya Drishti Charitable Society, which provides healthcare to the needy.

?We are trying to introduce a totally new concept in the Northeast. People of this region invariably have to wait for weeks to watch the latest Bollywood blockbusters. This time, cinema lovers will have the opportunity of watching a major film like Krrish a day before its actual release, and all for a noble cause,? said Devendr Saraf, public relations director of the organising company A.D.A. Event Management.

Krrish, a sequel to Rakesh Roshan?s Koi Mil Gaya, features Hrithik Roshan, Priyanka Chopra, Rekha and Naseeruddin Shah, Archana Puran Singh, Maaninee Mishra and Hemant Pandey. Containing death-defying stunts by Hrithik and sci-fi effects designed to thrill, Krrish is being described as ?a blend of Western technology and an eastern medley of music, dance and heart-rending emotions?.

Tickets for the pre-release show, to begin at 7 pm, will cost Rs 250 each and be available at different outlets.

?We have invited Maaninee and Hemant for the premiere and are hoping that they will be able to make it to the special screening,? Amar Bajaj, marketing director of A.D.A Event Management, said.

The company has purchased the exhibition rights from Filmkraft Productions to screen the movie at the charity premiere.

?Our aim is to redefine entertainment and this is a significant step in that direction. Watching big-banner movies in luxurious surroundings is always fun. All arrangements for the show have been completed. We have imported a JBL sound system of 10,000 watts for the best sound effects,? Saraf said.

Most of the theatres in the city are not air-conditioned and do not have good sound systems.

In accordance with its agreement with Divya Drishti Charitable Society, the event management company will get a nominal amount ? between 10 and 15 per cent of the funds raised ? to meet the organising expenses.

Divya Drishti Charitable Society is registered in New Delhi as an NGO.
