Imphal, Oct. 29: Imphal East outshone Imphal West by 86-76 points in the final of the State Inter-School Basketball Under-17 Boys’ Tournament at Khuman Lampak Indoor Stadium here today.
Playing a relatively superior game, the Imphal East boys led the first quarter by 22-16 points. However, in the second quarter, Imphal West managed to score with quick moves, only to trail by 34-41 points.
Imphal East managed to stick to a seven-point lead in the third quarter and upped the ante in the fourth quarter to romp home by a 10-point margin for the title.
For the winners, Sunder Singh fetched 32 points while Bishwanath Singh scored 14 points, Romio Singh 13, Somen Singh 20 and Jackson Singh 7 points.
Earlier, in the semi-finals, Imphal East beat Thoubal by 67-39 points while Imphal West overcame Churachandpur by 74-55 points.
In the girls’ final, Imphal West edged past Bishnupur by 31-28 points today.
The match was evenly poised as both teams were locked at 7-7 points in the first quarter. However, Imphal West took a slender lead of two points in the second quarter. But it was in the third quarter that the Imphal West girls showed their mettle as they raised their game to lead by 27-18 points.
In the last quarter, the Bishnupur team came back well fetching 10 points but even that was not enough as it went down to their opponents 28-31.
