The Agartala-Bangalore Humsafar Express derailed on Tuesday at Tilbhum, between Churaibari and Kalkalighat railway stations, in Tripura’s North district, around 180km from here.

A statement issued by the Northeast Frontier Railway chief public relations officer, Pranav Jyoti Sharma, said, “Two wheels of the front trolley of the engine derailed between Churaibari and Kalkalighat railway stations under Lumding division of the Northeast Frontier Railway, about 26km away from Karimganj station, at 7.52am.”

The statement also said there was no casualty or injuries to anyone.

An accident relief train reached the site from Badarpur shortly and senior divisional officers are also at the spot. “A team of safety and engineering officers, under the additional general manager, was dispatched from the Maligaon headquarters of NFR for the accident site,” the statement said.

The accident relief train began work immediately after reaching the site and the derailed wheels of the engine were put back to normal position, Sharma said. The track was declared fit for train movement at 12.10pm.

He said the express train was pulled back to Churaibari railway station, the last station before the Tripura-Assam boundary, and the passengers were provided with all necessary assistance.

“Cause of derailment is under investigation. Work of re-railment is under progress,” the statement added.
