March 2: The Archdiocese of Guwahati will be organising the episcopal installation of the new Archbishop of Guwahati, John Moolachira.

The episcopal installation of Moolachira will be held on Sunday at Christ the bearer of the Good News Cathedral in Rukminigaon.

The ceremony will be presided over by Rev. Thomas Menamparampil.

Moolachira has been appointed as the new Archbishop, following the retirement of Archbishop Rev. Menamparampil, SDB. on January 18.

Moolachira was appointed and installed as the bishop of Diphu in 2007.

He served in the capacity of a headmaster of Don Bosco School, Tezpur, for 10 years and also as a priest in Udalguri parish.

He helped establish schools across Assam as well as supported in the production of religious literature.

Rev. Menamparampil joined as Archbishop of Guwahati in 1992, after having served as the bishop at Dibrugarh from 1981 to 1992.

During his 31 years as a bishop, Rev. Menamparampil had established around 50 schools, hostels for boys and girls, five hospitals and dispensaries across the state.

He had also assisted in establishing Don Bosco University, Guwahati.

Allen Brooks, the vice-president of the Catholic Council of Northeast said, “Archbishop Menamparampil during his tenure has contributed immensely towards the development of the state by taking the initiative of building schools, hospitals and through his peace- building initiatives. We hope similar process of peace-building and development work for society will also be carried out by Archbishop Moolachira.”
