Assam PCC president Gaurav Gogoi held several roadside meetings on his first visit to his Lok Sabha constituency Jorhat after being handed over the charge of the Congress state unit ahead of the Assembly elections next year.
The three-term MP was accorded a warm welcome upon his arrival at the Jorhat airport by party rank and file, which included several Congress MLAs.
Gogoi visited his ancestral home in Nazir Ali, where he offered tribute to his late father and former chief minister Tarun Gogoi.
He addressed several meetings on his way to Titabar and Mariani constituencies, attacking the BJP-led government for its “misrule” and assuring people that the Congress had started preparing for the 2026 elections to deliver the state from corruption and syndicate raj.
Hours before leaving Delhi, Gogoi had targeted the BJP government over the flash flood in Guwahati.
“Unplanned construction, land grab and contractor-specific flyover have taken priority over the needs of the ordinary people of Guwahati. Greed for money and land is driving the BJP policy in Guwahati. Chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma was the Guwahati development department minister for a long time. Now his close associate is the minister... The huge corruption in Gauhati development department and Gauhati Municipality Corporation will be exposed,” he had posted on X.
