Guwahati, May 5: Adviser (sports) to the chief minister Robin Bordoloi, who is in charge of the 33rd National Games, has allayed fears that water sports disciplines will be dropped from the mega event due to a venue crisis.
Bordoloi said, ?A solution will have to be found soon. Water sports are an integral part of the National Games and there cannot be any question of dropping them.
?The whole picture will be clear as soon as C.P. Singh Deo, the most competent technical expert from the national federations, visits the sites. I was told that he will try to visit us sometime after May 8,? Bordoloi said.
The uncertainty over holding the water sports disciplines ? kayaking and canoeing and rowing ? grew after National Games Secretariat secretary-general Pradip Hazarika allegedly told the Assam Kayaking and Canoeing Association that the disciplines would not be held as the association?s president Bhubaneswar Kalita has rejected the Sualkuchi venue.
The National Games Secretariat had proposed shifting the venue to Sualkuchi because the dredging of Deepor Beel has not been completed.
Bordoloi, who is also vice-president of the Assam Olympic Association, said the Games Technical Conduct Committee meeting would be convened soon. ?Indian Olympic Association president Suresh Kalmadi has assured me that he will give a date soon,? Bordoloi said.
City boys win
