Rodor Sithi is the second film after Asene Konoba Hiyat directed by Islam, an alumnus of National School of Drama (NSD). The subject and scripts of the film are Islam's own and based on one of his plays, Beyond the Obvious. Ikramul Majid produced it under the banner of Alternate Cinematics.
Both Islam and Majid were present at the award distribution ceremony on April 11 and 12 at the festival held at Edgewater Casino in Vancouver, Canada. Canadian actor David C. Jones presented the award. They returned to Guwahati on Friday.
The Canada International Film Festival has firmly established itself among the top film festivals in Canada. Held each year in the beautiful and cosmopolitan city of Vancouver, the festival brings the very best of world cinema to Canada from over 90 countries around the world.
This year's festival showcased a wide variety of North American and international feature films to thought-provoking shorts, documentaries, music videos, animations, experimental films, student films, a screenplay competition, and more.
"I tried to make the film in my own way. Some people did not like it and gave some harsh comments on the film. But I was hopeful that somebody would definitely understand my thoughts. To my delight the film got a fabulous reception in festivals outside the state," said Islam.
"Although the film has been screened at a few film festivals in different parts of the country, to get an award in a reputed festival like Canada International Film Festival is the motivating factor for me," Islam said.
Islam said though the box office collection could not meet the production cost of the film, Rodor Sithi is one of the biggest commercial hits in Assam in the past 10 years.
Islam is now busy with his drama production house. He has recently worked for an Assamese feature film Protyahban and played the lead role in a Hindi film.
