English-Assamese lexicon

A compact English-English-Assamese dictionary was today launched by the Oxford University Press at the Vivekananda Kendra Institute of Culture in Uzan Bazar here.

Guwahati, June 14: A compact English-English-Assamese dictionary was today launched by the Oxford University Press at the Vivekananda Kendra Institute of Culture in Uzan Bazar here.

The dictionary has been compiled by Jyotiprakash Tamuli, head of the linguistics department of Gauhati University. Sources said this is the first time the Oxford University Press has published such a dictionary.

The dictionary contains 24,000 words, phrases, idioms, phrasal verbs and derivatives with their translation in Assamese; pronunciation guide of English words and 500 notes on spelling, grammar and pronunciation; over 200 illustrations, 13,000 example sentences and 1,100 synonyms and antonyms.

A panel discussion on Bilingual Learning Materials - An Effective Medium to Develop English Proficiency Skills was also held at the event.
