Nalbari, July 30: Four persons have been injured along the Indo-Bhutan border since yesterday night, as a herd of wild elephants has been on the rampage in a few villages in Baksa district.

Sources said besides injuring four persons, the elephants damaged crops and many houses (in pictures above) at Pub Gayabari village in Nagrijuli under Tamulpur police station in the district.

The injured — Kajal Brahma, Laal Bahadur Ghimire, Lakshindar Barman and Dig Bahadur Limbu — have been hospitalised at Nagrijuli public health centre.

Forest department sources said the herd came to Pub Gayabari village from the nearby forests along the Bhutan border in search of foods.

Villagers complained that the elephants were destroying crops and houses at their villages at frequent intervals.

They want deployment armed forest guards at their village to chase away the elephants.
