Guwahati, Nov. 29: Former Assam first class cricketer Kamal Das has been retained as junior (under-19) selector of the Board of Control for Cricket in India for the third term.

Though Assam?s quota for the junior selectorship has already been exhausted, with Das being nominated for the 2000-01 and 2004-05 terms, he was retained for a second straight term in the BCCI annual general meeting in Calcutta today.

The apex body decided not to change the junior selection committee headed by Praveen Amre in view of next year?s junior (under-19) World Cup in Sri Lanka.

According to the BCCI resolution, a new set of selectors finds it difficult to pick up junior players as they lack the knowledge of every individual player across the country. It would not be much difficult for the existing body to pick up players, the AGM felt.

Two Assam under-19 cricketers ? Parvez Aziz and Abu Naschim Ahmed ? have represented India during Das?s one-yearlong sercond tenure as selector.

Earlier, Khanin Saikia represented India in the Junior World Cup in New Zealand and Sadek Imran Choudhury donned the Indian colours against Sri Lanka in an away tournament during his earlier tenure in 2000-01.

?I am getting another opportunity. I will definitely try to push for our players. But the players will have to perform consistently at all levels,? Das said.

Assam was also rewarded for supporting the Sharad Pawar camp in the BCCI elections today, with ACA secretary Bikash Baruah named in the technical committee and treasurer Ghanashyam Boruah in the universities committee.
