Shillong, Oct. 1: The scenic Orchid Lake Resort on the bank of the Umiam is all set to host a rocking evening of electronic dance music (EDM) on Saturday.

Leading EDM company Submerge, in association with local pioneers CPEN (Centre Point Entertainment Network), will present the event along with t2.

Boasting a killer line-up, Submerge Dance Project will deliver three marquee dance music names - Albin Myers, Nikhil Chinapa and Nawed Khan - and local talents like Arpan, Sev and B2B.

Submerge Dance Project's popularity has grown over the years - since its inception in 2003 by Chinapa, Pearl and Hermit Sethi - with an aim to connect Indian dance music fans with the best DJs from around the world.

Dance music has been a cultural constant across the country for decades and Submerge, along with CPEN, is ready to raise the curtains from 3pm on Saturday.

The lighting and acoustics will complement the world-class music to create an amazing atmosphere for the crowd. The combination of top production-quality equipment, sound, lighting and stage gear, coupled with the music, will make the event one of the grandest Shillong has ever seen.

Swedish DJ Myers, who has never been to the Northeast, he said he was excited about the event. "I've never travelled to the Northeast before and I'm really excited to come there. I love to travel around India," he said.

On the current EDM scene and how the genre has grown over the years, Myers said, "EDM has gone from an underground culture to the biggest stages worldwide in less than a decade. The style has become more pop-oriented but has also helped many sub-genres to become bigger. It feels like the dance music industry has finally got the big platform it deserves and it will stay there for a long time."

EDM refers to a broad range of percussive electronic music genres produced largely for nightclubs and festivals. It is generally used in the context of a live DJ mix where the arranger creates a selection of tracks by segueing from one recording to the next.

Passes for the event can be obtained in Shillong and Guwahati. Formed in 2001, Submerge is an artiste management agency and dance music promoter. Its events have featured some of the biggest names in the industry like Swedish House Mafia, Tommy Trash, Richie Hawtin, Pierce Fulton, John OO Fleming, DBN, Shogun, Style of Eye and Michael Woods. CPEN announced its arrival with a bang in 2005 by presenting a Michael Learns To Rock concert here.
