A 23-year-old girl from Imphal West, who had tested positive for Covid-19, was discharged from Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences here on Sunday, after doctors said she had fully recovered from the disease.

The girl was taken to her home at Thangmeiband Lourung Purel Leikai in Imphal West on Sunday afternoon in an ambulance, accompanied by two nurses, wearing full PPE (personal protective equipment) gear, along with the driver.

The decision to discharge her was taken at a meeting of JNIMS Covid Treatment Core Committee held at the office of director Dr Th. Bhimo. A team of the Integrated Disease Surveillance Programme, led by state surveillance officer Dr Tomcha Khuman, attended.

Bhimo said the nurses and the driver will be kept in quarantine for 14 days and will be tested for Covid-19.

“The girl could have gone home by Wednesday or Thursday after her last test result came negative. But she wished to stay at the hospital for a few days. She will be under home quarantine for 14 days. Her parents have been handed over a copy of the home quarantine guidelines issued by the ministry of health and family welfare,” Bhimo said.

After she was discharged, the Covid ward, where she was shifted after treatment in the ICCU, was fumigated. It will be usable after two days. Manipur fire services personnel also sprayed sodium hypochlorite on the JNIMS campus after the ambulance left.

On the other hand, Thangmeiband Congress legislator Kh. Joykisan visited the girl’s house and expressed happiness over her full recovery.

He appealed to the neighbourhood not to stigmatise the girl’s family members because she was a coronavirus patient.
