Cops rescue Guwahati resident

Meghalaya police today rescued Hasmot Ali, 40, a resident of Guwahati, from Damal Asim village in West Garo Hills.

Tura, Feb. 15: Meghalaya police today rescued Hasmot Ali, 40, a resident of Guwahati, from Damal Asim village in West Garo Hills.

Ali was abducted from his house on February 8.

A joint team of Assam and Meghalaya police today apprehended three persons, who have confessed their involvement in the case, from Hollaidanga village in West Garo Hills. Based on their information, the police carried out search operations at Damal Asim, 40km from Hollaidanga, through the day.

West Garo Hills superintendent of police Mukesh Singh said under pressure of the raid, the abductors released the victim at Debragre market at 6pm and fled.

The apprehended trio have been handed over to Assam police for investigation.
