Nagaon, March 3. This time it's politics through hoardings in Assam.
After depiction of Prime Minister Narendra Modi as a cartoon character in Guwahati by the rival Congress just before his February 5 Guwahati visit, it seems to be the turn of the BJP to depict the Congress's failure through cartoons on a hoarding near Rahul Gandhi's rally spot on March 5.
First on the party's agenda is rhino poaching which the BJP has taken up through hoardings in the central Assam district. Killing of rhinos in Kaziranga and Orang is one of the burning topics in the state.
The party took a gigantic hoarding on rent in Borghat to showcase the rhino-killing issue in an emotional way.
"It serves two purposes - to showcase the government's failure to protect rhinos from poachers and at the same time the reluctance of the chief minister is depicted through cartoons in the best possible way," said a BJP media cell source. The 3,200 square feet hoarding is just 50m from the venue of Rahul Gandhi's public rally where the Congress aims to gather at least 1 lakh party supporters. It is near the Borghat rotary, so that each of those who comes to attend the rally would cross the hoarding first. The 80x40ft hoarding (the biggest hoarding in the district) costs Rs 48,000 per month and the BJP took it on rent for two months.
On the left side there is a picture of a dead rhino whose horn has been taken away. On the right, chief minister Tarun Gogoi is seen laughing and saying bad diyahe (let's avoid it)
According to the BJP media cell, almost 12 hoardings depicting rhino killings have been placed in different parts of Nagaon till date.
"In the next phase, we will cover some more areas and the theme of the hoarding would be different," the source said.
