The department of physics and mathematics of Lakhimpur Girls? College recently organised a symposium on Albert Einstein?s theory of relativity to commemorate the International Year of Physics.
Inaugurating the symposium, Dibrugarh University vice-chancellor Kulendu Pathak gave a brief overview of the topic, while Amarendra Rajput of the department of physics, Dibrugarh University, spoke on the topic, ?Einstein and his contribution to the human thought?.
The inaugural session was presided over by Manoranjan Pandit, principal of Lakhimpur Girls? College. Durlav Dev Goswami, head of the physics department, unveiled a souvenir.
Darwin School of Business, one of the region?s premier management and entrepreneurship institutes, organised a seminar on ?global management style? at a Guwahati restaurant recently.
The participants in the programme made presentations and submitted papers on various global management practices. The discussions focused on the three major economic forces of the world ? the American style of hire and fire, the bonded culture of Japan and the Chinese style of a regimented society.
The event coincided with the institute?s foundation day.
The first annual day function of the Zoological Society of Cotton College (ZSCC) was held recently in the department. ZSCC president and head of the department of zoology, I.K. Bhattacharyya, inaugurated the event. In his inaugural speech, he appealed to the students to engage themselves in extra-curricular activities that focus on personality development.
The day?s schedule included a lecture on popular science, a science quiz, an essay competition, an extempore speech competition and a logo-designing contest.
Alok Kumar Buragohain, a teacher at Tezpur Central University?s department of molecular biology and biotechnology, delivered the lecture. The topic was The Journey of a Cell from Zygote to Adult.
Former Cotton College principal Dilip Baruah conducted the quiz, which was by far the day?s most well attended programme. Rupjyoti Das and Manash Pratin Dutta, both higher secondary students, won the first prize. I.K. Bhattacharyya and Raushan Ara Ahmed, former heads of the department of zoology, awarded the winners of the other competitions.
The ZSCC is an academic organisation that comprises past and present students and teachers of the department of zoology, Cotton College.
Its primary objective is to help students develop a scientific temperament and make biological science popular.
An NCC contingent from the Northeast won the first prize in a cultural competition during the All Vayu Sainik Camp at Jolahali Air Force Station, Bangalore. The cadets presented a Bihu dance that turned out to be the most popular performance of the event.
The team included NCC (air wing) cadets under officer Sanjib Sharma and cadet Pranjit Das from Paschim Guwahati Mahavidyalaya, Dharapur, under officer Runima Lahkar and cadet Udhab Deka from Aryavidyapeeth College, Guwahati, under officer Taralim Basisth from Handique College, Guwahati, warrant officer Anup Das and warrant officer Manish Singh from Pragjyotish College, Guwahati, warrant officer Ujjal Jyoti Gayan and cadet Sangita Kalita from Lalit Chandra Bharali College, Guwahati, S.P. Deka from Tangla College, Tangla, cadet Bandana Bordoloi from Dakshin Kamrup Girls? College, Kamrup, and cadet Rupjyoti Toye and cadet Hemen Deka from Jorhat Engineering College, Jorhat. Cadet Aditya Kumar Jha and cadet Rahul Saini from Pragjyotish College assisted the cultural group.
All the cadets belong to the 50 Assam Air Squadron of NCC, Guwahati, and 51 Assam Technical, Jorhat.
The Kamakhya branch of the Marwari Yuva Manch, Guwahati, recently organised a greeting card designing competition among students. As many as 250 students with a flair for making cards vied for the prizes on offer.
The prize distribution ceremony was held at Matri Mandir, Athgaon, in the presence of Leela Kanoi, president of the Marwari Yuva Manch, Kamakhya branch. Vinayak Saraf, chairman of Matri Mandir, was the chief guest. The winners received special gifts along with the prizes.
The Assam committee of the Bharat Jan Vigyan Jatra (BJVJ) is organising a quiz on an unusual topic ? Rational Use of Drugs ? at the Regional Science Centre in Khanapara, Guwahati, on November 26. The contest is open to students of classes VIII, IX and X.
The quiz has been organised as part of a national awareness campaign in collaboration with the Consumer Unity and Trust Society?s Calcutta resource centre and with the support of the India offices of the World Health Organisation and the Controller General of Drugs.
The programme intends to create awareness about rational use of drugs.
