Bud honours 20 veterans

Guwahati, Sept. 26: One of the oldest BCCI units, the Assam Cricket Association (ACA), may not have gone places, but a privately-managed club has given the state a global presence by launching its website here this evening.

Bud Cricket Club celebrated its fourth anniversary with a new Internet site, www.budcricketclub.com, and honoured 20 retired Ranji Trophy players. Of the 20, 15 of the veterans attended the award ceremony, the club?s vice-president Santanu Barman.

The former players, who represented Assam between 1975 and 1980, were felicitated at the Talimeren Ao indoor hall of Cotton College. Last year, the club honoured 39 cricketers who played for the state from 1948 to 1975.

The highest run-getters and wicket-takers from the state in Ranji Trophy and different age-group tournaments last season were also felicitated along with the youngest mountaineer of the state, Pranjoy Juria.

Vasant Sarvanan (highest scorer) and Arlen Konwar (wicket-taker) were given the M.P. Baruah and Ashwini Rajbongshi awards for their contributions in the Ranji Trophy.

In under-22, Mukut Kalita got the Khema Bordoloi Trophy for batting and Gyan Prakash took the Girin Baruah award for bowling. Chandan Raut got the Nilimoy Choudhury award for batting in the under-19 section, while Bhaskar Jyoti Barman got the Anil Mech award for bowling.

In under-17, Sadeq Imran Choudhury was given the H.P. Bezbaruah award for batting, while bowler Gokul Sarma bagged the Khireswar Dutta Trophy. In under-15, batsman Swarupam Purkayastha shared the Vijay Tiwari award with bowler Ijaj Hussain.

The award function was shown live on the website, which was formally launched by the club?s patron D.D. Ingty and ACA secretary Bikash Baruah.

Nagen Hazarika award: Sushil Uzir, Amal Das (junior), Nagesh Singh, Pankaj Shrutikar, Dipak Buragohain, Parag Bhattacharjee, Gautam Das, Sanjib Deka, Gautam Hazarika and Mohan Saikia
