Weapons haul

Tezpur, Dec. 12: Sonitpur police, with the help of their counterparts in Nagaland, today recovered an AK-81 rifle, six magazines, one Chinese-made grenade, one LMG magazine and 30 rounds of ammunition near the Myanmar border in Nagaland.

Bongaigaon: The government is "conspiring" to sabotage the movement of the Pradip Ray faction of the AKRSU by allowing police to harass its leaders and "indict them in false charges", Pradip Ray, the president of the students' group alleged on Monday in a press release.

Kokrajhar: Biswajit Das was apprehended while trying to break open an ATM machine in Kokrajhar town on Sunday evening.

Tinsukia: In a suspected case of food poisoning, around 40 people, including women and children, fell ill after eating prasad at the residence of Krishna Kamal Saikia at Borgaon village in Tinsukia district on Sunday night.

Linkman held

Tinsukia: An Ulfa (Independent) linkman, Bittu Moran, was arrested by personnel of the army's 15 Kumaon Regiment from the Makum area of Tinsukia district on Sunday night.

Kokrajhar: Security forces arrested an alleged NDFB (S) linkman, Thomas Narzary, 26, from Shonpur village in Kokrajhar on Monday.

Jorhat: Maj. Gen. Rajiv Mishra, VSM, GOC 41 Sub Area, Lichubari, attended the annual sports day celebration of Rhino Army Pre-Primary School on Monday.

Scam arrest

Jorhat: Pankaj Kalita, the driver of Prabhat Kalita, was picked up by police on Monday for questioning. Prabhat, a Congressman, is an accused in the Sadharan Jati Vikash Parishad (a welfare council) scam.
