Kokrajhar, March 15: The Bodoland Peoples’ Progressive Front (BPPF) today announced the first list of four candidates for the ensuing Assembly election.

The list include former Rajya Sabha MP Urkhao Gwra Brahma from Kokrajhar West, Kishore Basumatary from Kokrajhar East, Maoti Brahma Hazoway from Sidli and former MLA Romio Brahma from Bijni.

Addressing a news conference at the party office in Kokrajhar, BPPF president Rabiram Narzary said the party’s main aim was to defeat the BPF-Congress in power in the state. The second list of party candidates will be announced on March 17.

The BPPF president said they had left four seats — Chapaguri, Barama, Rangia and Kalaigaon — to the AGP and would contest the elections in alliance with the regional party. He said there would be friendly contests in Chapaguri and Kaliagaon.

The BPPF had earlier said the party would field candidates in eight constituencies of the 12 which falls under the Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) and would support like-minded parties in the rest.
