Oct. 4: Akira Kurosawa, Obayashi Nobuhiko, Ryosuke Hashiguchi, Yaguchi Shinobu, Yasujiro Ozu, Koki Mitani ? the film buffs probably could not have asked for more.

Watching seven masterpieces by these masters of Japanese cinema on the big screen is a proposition no cineaste can refuse. And you would have to savour all those in three days.

The bouquet of the seven films will be screened at a Japanese film festival from October 7 to 10 at the Lakhiram Barua Sadan. However, there will be no shows on October 8.

The festival is being organised by the Gauhati Cine Club in collaboration with the Omeo Kumar Das Institute of Social Change and Development and in association with the Japan Foundation.

The inaugural function will be graced by a senior official of the Japan Foundation and noted film personality Jahnu Baruah. All the films are strictly for adults.

Secretary of the Gauhati Cine Club, Kanak Chandra Kalita, said the films depict various facets of the Japanese cinema and will be a treat for the cinephiles.

Akira Kurosawa?s 1950 classic Roshoman will be screened on October 7 after the inaugural ceremony. This will be followed by his Pulse.

Obayashi Nobuhiko?s Good Bye for Tomorrow will be screened on October 9. Ryosuke Hashiguchi?s Hush! will also be screened.

Waterboys, directed by Yaguchi Shinobu, will be screened on October 10. Yasujiro Ozu?s Equinox Flower will be screened on the same day. The closing film of the festival will be All about Our House by Koki Mitani.
