Bodousa Cup from July 29

The Bodousa Sports Club, an affiliated unit of the Tinsukia District Sports Association, will organise its flagship event, the 7th Bodousa Gold Cup football tournament, at four different venues across Tinsukia district in Upper Assam from July 29 to August 9.

Guwahati, July 12: The Bodousa Sports Club, an affiliated unit of the Tinsukia District Sports Association, will organise its flagship event, the 7th Bodousa Gold Cup football tournament, at four different venues across Tinsukia district in Upper Assam from July 29 to August 9.

Elaborating on the tournament, Bodousa SC president Arunjyoti Moran said 16 teams from across the Northeast will participate and the group leagues will be played at Jubilee ground in Digboi, Gandhi Maidan in Namrup, Doomdooma Town Field in Doomdooma and Kachujan ground in Tinsukia. The opening and closing ceremonies will be held at Kachujan ground, he added.

"Twelve of the 16 teams will play in the league phase. They will be divided into four groups of three each and the group toppers will qualify for the quarter-finals. Four teams will qualify directly for the quarter-finals which will be selected later on," he said.

He said several teams from other states - North Eastern Reorganisation and Cultural Association (Manipur), Manik FC (Sikkim), Assam Rifles (Meghlaya), CRPF (Jalandhar) - and Assam clubs like Green Valley SC, Oil India FC, Trinayanjyoti Sangha, Tinsukia Railway SC, Baarhoongkha FC and the hosts have already confirmed participation. About the prize money, Moran said the winners would be rewarded with Rs 1 lakh while the runners-up will receive Rs 50,000 and the best disciplined team get Rs 10,000. There will be cash prizes of Rs 3,000 each to the Highest Scorer, Best Goalkeeper, Best Player and Player of the Final.

The tournament is organised in the memory of Moran Bodusa by the All Moran Students' Union.
