Kokrajhar, Jan. 3: Two militants of the National Democratic Front of Boroland, including self-styled “Corporal” Janak Islary, surrendered before the Kokrajhar police today.
One of them was identified as 26-year-old Islary alias Jujilang of Hatigarh under Kachugaon police station while the other is 25-year-old Budrang Brahma of Owguri under Bengtol outpost.
The duo deposited an AK-56 rifle and two self-loading rifles. Police said Islary, who joined the NDFB in 1997, was the “Corporal” of the Lalai camp.
Sources said more surrenders are in the offing as an outcome of the operations by the Royal Bhutan Army. The RBA continued with its Operation All Clear to flush out the remaining militants from its territory, vowing not to rest till the last rebel was driven out. On the final leg of the operations, in which 30 well-established camps have already been destroyed, the fleeing Ulfa and NDFB militants are being tracked.
A businessman, identified as Kamal Agarwala, was abducted last night by suspected militants, adds our Nagaon correspondent. He is a resident of Bakuliahat in Karbi Anglong. This is the third abduction in the district in the past 17 days.
