Blue Bird boys fly high in opener - Happy Child begin on positive note

Guwahati, March 20: It was smooth sailing for Blue Bird English School and Happy Child High School in the first two matches of the 10th Amulya Das, Raishmodi Nunisa, Lilabati Lekharu and Biswanath Ghosh all-Assam inter-school (under-16) prize-money cricket meet at Nehru Stadium today.

Blue Bird inflicted a four-wicket defeat on Central Public School in the lung-opener, while Happy Child left Pearl Valley English High School 26 runs short of victory in the second match of the day.

In the first match, Central Public School were put to bat first and restricted to 116 for seven in 15 overs. In reply, Blue Bird posted an effortless 117 for six in 13.2 overs.

Nirendra Deka (19) and skipper Dhrubajyoti Kalita (17) were the notable scorers for Central Public.

Bidyut Boro of Blue Bird claimed two wickets, conceding 30 runs off three overs.

For Blue Bird, skipper Madhurjya Kalita topscored with 27 runs, while Santosh Pandit chipped in with 14.

Ajay Kumar of Central Public scalped three for nine runs, while Dhrubajyoti Kalita claimed two for 20.

In the other match, Happy Child batted first to pile up 100 for seven in 15 overs. The team then bundled out Pearl Valley for 74 runs in 14.2 overs.

Nikhil Mittal (19), Gaurav Tambi (19 not out) and Rahul Roy (13) were the main scorers for Happy Child, while Pankaj Kumar Yadav and Abhinash Das shared two wickets each, conceding 12 and eight runs respectively.

Pranav Singh topscored for Pearl Valley with 18 and 14 runs came from the bat of Rakesh Yadav. Dhruba Roy chipped in with 13 runs. Rahul Roy was the wrecker-in-chief, notching three for 10. Gaurav Tambi claimed two for 13.

Tomorrow, Central Public School play Rose Bud School while Albert English School face Fairyland High School in group league matches. A total of 26 teams from across the state are taking part in the meet.
