Guwahati, Feb. 19: Danielle Jones of West Bengal today caused the second major upset in the under-14 OIL-AITA super series tennis championship, vanquishing second seed Amrita Seth in straight sets 6-0, 6-1.

Jones booked a berth in the last four stage of the championship being played at the North East Tennis Foundation complex here.

Joining Jones in the last four with similar straight set wins are top seed Supriya Mallaya of Maharashtra, third seed Likitah Devraj of Karnataka and Deepna Vazirani of Maharashtra.

All the semis will be played tomorrow.

Unseeded Gaurav Baruah of Assam had yesterday created the first major upset when he accounted for second seed Priyank Gangadharan 3-6, 6-3,6-4. Today, however, he lost rather meekly in straight sets to statemate Rituplawan Gogoi.

Gogoi in the process also became the only player from the host state to remain in the hunt for top honours.

Altogether 12 boys and five girls from Assam featured in the main draw of 32.

As per rules, the winners in the first round, last 16, last eight, runners-up and the champion will get 10, 20, 30, 40 and 50 points respectively.

In the last four, Gogoi joins top seed Vinay Kamineni of Andhra Pradesh, who beat a fighting Parnai Das of Assam 7-6 (7-1), 6-2, third seed Dhruvgurwara of Delhi, who struggled to beat Luv Sodha in three sets, and fourth seed Christopher Marquis of Maharashtra who accounted for statemate Siddharth Gulgule also in three sets.

While the boys quarterfinals were keenly contested, barring the match featuring Barua and Gogoi, only one match in the girls figuring C. Mohanasai Madhuri of Andhra Pradesh and Garima Vatwani went to the decider. The former won 6-3,2-6,6-2.
