Golaghat, Sept. 7: The Golaghat Bar Association will be the first of its kind to be equipped with a crèche and a gym for its members.

'Established in 1891, the bar association has completed 125 years. The district and sessions judge of Golaghat, Satyajit Khound, will inaugurate the amenities tomorrow during its quasquicentennial ceremony,' said Durga Prasad Jaiswal, the secretary of the association.

'Many women had to quit the profession after they had children. So we took this initiative to provide a safe atmosphere for the kids and provide relief to the working mothers,' said Jaiswal.

'The gymnasium was set up to provide much-needed exercise to lawyers. According to records, there is no bar association in the country which has a dedicated crèche and a gym for its members,' Jaiswal added.

'We are thankful to Golaghat MLA Ajanta Neog who has sanctioned Rs 25 lakh to the bar association to construct these amenities. The crèche is donated by family members of Surjya Kanta Bezbaruah, who was a member of GBA. The equipment for the gym was procured from the voluntary contribution made by 25 of our members' said Mohendra Nath Dutta, the president of the association.

The association at present has 500 members.
