Guwahati, March 19: The Assam government today dismissed six professors of three medical colleges of the state from their posts. They have been charged with gross negligence of duty.

The doctors were identified as associate professor of the pharmacology department of Silchar Medical College (SMC), H.C. Prasad, registrar of the anaesthesiology department of Gauhati Medical College Hospital (GMCH), Nahid Choudhury, resident surgeon of the obstetrics and gynaecology department of SMC, Debolene Desmukh, refractionist of the ophthalmology department of SMC, Joyjit Roy, associate professor of plastic surgery in Assam Medical College, Debobrata Changkakoty and assistant professor of neurology at GMCH, Sharmila Changkakoty.

An official source said action has been taken against the doctors as they had gone on unauthorised leave or on lien and have been absent from duty for a long period.

Even though the government had served repeated notices, they had not replied to these.
