Guwahati: Assamese film Xhoihobote Dhemalite (Rainbow Fields) has won an award for Best Screenplay in the Treasure Coast International Film Festival, Florida (USA) held from August 16 to 19.

The film was nominated in five categories.

"Our film's story is based on the soil of Assam - but people from halfway across the globe are relating to it. Just goes to show once again that colour of emotion across the globe is same. In Xhoihobote Dhemlite, we always believed that we are making a world cinema in Assamese language. Thank you Treasure Coast International Film Festival for re-affirming our faith," said writer-director Bidyut Kotoky on receiving the award.

Last month, Xhoixobote Dhemalite became the first Assamese film to be commercially released in the US.

The film has won three awards, including that of Best Film, in the Love International Film Festival, Los Angeles (California).

The film stars veteran Victor Banerjee, along with seasoned actors like Dipannita Sharma, Nakul Vaid, Naved Aslam, Nipon Goswami and Nikumoni Barua.

Inspired by true events and set in Assam in the turbulent period of the 80's, is a film about children growing up in violence-hit places, witnessing brutality around them and how it affects them deeply, leaving an indelible mark on their growth.
