Anurag in quarters

Anurag Buragohain and Janashree Saikia of Assam today caused major upsets in the boys' under-14 and girls' under-12 singles events respectively in the ongoing OIL-AITA Super Series Tennis tournament under way at the All Assam Tennis Association Complex here.

Guwahati, July 14: Anurag Buragohain and Janashree Saikia of Assam today caused major upsets in the boys' under-14 and girls' under-12 singles events respectively in the ongoing OIL-AITA Super Series Tennis tournament under way at the All Assam Tennis Association Complex here.

Anurag and Janashree moved to the quarter-finals defeating fifth seed Jaishvin Singh Sidana of Punjab 6-4, 3-6, 6-2 and fourth seed Sudipta Senthil Kumar of Maharashtra 7-5, 6-2 respectively.

Janashree, however, lost against Bengal opponent Rituparna Choudhury in the under-14 girls' singles. Rituparna won 6-3, 6-1 in the second round encounter.

Tanisha Kashyap blanked Kristi Boro 6-0, 6-0 in another under-14 girls' singles all-Assam match today.

In another upset, Yashraj S. Dalvi of Maharashtra shocked second seed Amrut Jay Mohanty of Odisha 7-5, 6-2 to enter the under-12 boys' singles quarter-finals.

Under-12 boys' singles top seed Nikhil Niranjan of Karnataka had an easy sail into the quarter-finals beating Manipur boy Rahul Pamei 6-1, 6-0 in the second round today.

Udit Gogoi was the only Assam boy to make it to the under-12 boys' singles quarter-finals getting the better of Shashidhar Kota of Maharashtra who conceded the match after losing the first set 6-1 due to injury.

The quarter-finals will start tomorrow morning. The doubles matches were played this evening.
