The Opposition Congress and Left have called a “people’s rally” in Agartala on January 21 under the banner of My Vote, My Right to ensure voters in Tripura are allowed to participate in the February 16 Assembly polls without fear.

“This rally has been called by the Congress, the Left parties and other democratic and secular forces to campaign for My Vote, My Right. It will be held without any party flag or banner. The rally will submit a memorandum to the state chief electoral officer, who happens to be the eyes and ears of the Election Commission of India, to ensure the rights of the voters are ensured to save democracy,” senior Congress leader Sudip Roy Barman told The Telegraph.

Barman added: “Our sole intention is to restore democracy, to see people get to vote without fear or favour, which they have been deprived of under the BJP-led government since 2018, be it the polls organised by the ECI or the state election commission.”
