Imphal, April 15: Manipuri woman footballer Wangkhem Thabal will lead the under-17 Indian girl?s team in the AFC U-17 women?s football championship.
Seven other girls from the state will also be part of the Indian squad that will play the inaugural edition of the tournament beginning tomorrow in South Korea.
Sources in the All Manipur Football Association said the team reached South Korea yesterday accompanied by coach Ratankumar Singh, also from Manipur.
India is in a difficult group, clubbed with host Korea, Thailand and Indonesia.
The eight Manipuris representing India are Wangkhem Thabal (captain and goalie), Ashem Romi Devi, Thangjam Ranjita Devi (defenders), Maibam Bembem, Chingtham Sanathoi Chanu, Hmar Lalvarmoi (midfielders), Ngangom Bala Devi and Nameirakpam Roma Devi (strikers).
Bangla kho kho trip
A 12-member women?s team of the Assam Kho Kho Association left for Dhaka, Bangladesh, tonight to participate in a three-day meet from April 17, reports a staff reporter from Guwahati.
This is the first time a state kho kho team will play in an international meet.
