Tezpur, Sept. 12: Three suspected vehicle thieves, including a woman, were arrested by Sonitpur police today. Based on their confessions, several stolen cars and bikes were recovered from Naharlagun in Arunachal Pradesh and Dimapur in Nagaland.

The trio have been identified as Deepan Deka from Mangaldoi, Bhaskar Kalita from Bebezia in Tezpur district and Maina Begum from Lakhimpur.

Sources said after stealing a car, one of the men and the woman cross the inter-state boundary posing as a coupler.

The sources said the vehicles are sold to famous personalities, including politicians, outside the state.

Sonitpur additional superintendent of police Numal Mahatta said an investigation is on and several cases have been registered against vehicle thieves in various places in the district.

He said the arrests have been a great success for Tezpur police.
