Shillong: St Anthony's Higher Secondary School and St Edmund's Higher Secondary School here bagged the topmost positions in the Higher Secondary School Leaving Certificate (HSSLC) examination of the science and commerce streams, respectively.
The result of the examinations, conducted by the Meghalaya Board of School Education, were declared on Thursday.
In the science stream, St Anthony's bagged nearly all the 10 positions with Rishav Das topping the list. Das secured 480 marks with distinction in English, alternative English, physics, chemistry, computer applications and mathematics.
Except the sixth position, which was secured by Nishtha Barman Hajong of Don Bosco College, Tura, all the other positions were secured by students of St Anthony's.
Of the 3,363 students who appeared in the HSSLC science examination, 2,732 were awarded pass certificates. This year's pass percentage of 74.58 is lower than last year's pass percentage of 76.76.
Among the districts, East Khasi Hills outperformed the others with a pass percentage of 82.78 while South Garo Hills secured a pass percentage of only 16.67.
In the commerce stream, Chongdeinem Guite of St Edmund's higher secondary school bagged the topmost position by securing 443 marks. Guite secured a distinction in English, economics, alternative English, computer applications and business studies.
The pass percentage in this stream was 79.84 where 1,834 out of 2,297 candidates were declared to have passed. Last year, the pass percentage was 71.87.
In this stream, East Garo Hills district secured a pass percentage of 93.75, making it the best performing district, while West Jaintia Hills recorded a pass percentage of 61.08. The board also declared the results of the HSSLC (vocational) stream.
