Guwahati, Sept. 9: One more youth was arrested today for allegedly live-streaming Mission China on Facebook in Assam's North Lakhimpur town where the film did good business for the second day running like elsewhere in the state.

Sankar Barua, 20, was arrested by Bharalumukh police here. Barua is a student of North Lakhimpur College. He was arrested on the basis of the complaint lodged by producer Garima Saikia Garg yesterday at Bharalumukh police station when similar cases came to light as the film was released all over the state.

'The youth was live-streaming the film from Biswa cinema hall located in Lakhimpur. We are also searching for two more persons who were also doing the same. Most probably, one of them is from Guwahati and the other from Dhubri,' assistant commissioner of police Ponjit Duara told The Telegraph this evening.

Film distributor Goenka Enterprise said nearly Rs 39,50,000 has been collected statewide.

'The film continues to do good business. On the second day too, a huge response was seen from the audience in every part of the state. We hope within a week the film can earn around Rs 2.7 crore from the Assam box office,' an official of Goenka Enterprise said. The distributor had earlier claimed that Mission China had broken all records of earning on the first day of any film released in the state.

Former chief minister of Assam Tarun Gogoi today congratulated the team of Mission China for its resounding success. Gogoi said Assamese films have got a new lease of life with this film. 'I called Zubeen Garg and congratulated him for the film's success. It is not only important for the Assamese film industry but also for Assamese society. It is a real example of work to save the jati, mati and bheti,' Gogoi said in an oblique reference to the BJP's pre-poll slogan of protecting Assam's soil and identity if voted to power.

Aggressive promotion by Zubeen ensured that cinegoers flock to the halls.

Opposition leader Debabrata Saikia and his mother, former Assam PCC president Hema Prova Saikia, were among those who watched the movie on the day of its release.

Ibobi graft response

Former Manipur chief minister Okram Ibobi Singh today denied the charges of being involved in financial irregularities committed in the Manipur Development Society (MDS), saying they are 'baseless', reports our special correspondent from Imphal.

'I will extend my full cooperation to investigation by any agency like the CBI, NIA or Enforcement Directorate. If I am found guilty by the court, I will accept the verdict. But I will fight for justice,' Ibobi Singh told reporters here.

This is the first reaction from Ibobi Singh after he was named along with five others in an FIR registered by Imphal police station on September 1. The six persons named in the FIR are charged with cheating, criminal conspiracy and breach of trust in a Rs 185.79 crore scam in the MDS.
