Not all fast fashion is thoughtless

A crop top never goes to waste, irrespective of the season. But what’s better than a good crop top? A conscious crop top, of course. As part of its ongoing Join Life collection, fast fashion retailer Zara has been releasing clothes made from organic cotton, recycled wool and the environmentally-responsible Tencel. The collection is an attempt to integrate sustainability in the brand’s overall approach and to reduce the label’s environmental footprint.

The green houndstooth crop top is made from 70% recycled polyester, and has been produced from recycled PET plastic. Turns out, this plastic can be cleaned and recycled into new polyester. The recovered thread resembles virgin polyester, which is strong, resistant and can be further recycled. Pair this snazzy number with a relaxed-fit pair of black trousers or layer it under a baggy bomber jacket.
