Ekaya is India’s first handloom luxury label and has consistently worked with Banarasi craft and heritage textiles to produce wearable, artisanal pieces. This handwoven lehenga with intricate floral work is a part of the label’s Sakura line which is a collection of saris and lehengas in deep tones of reds, blues, pinks, and handwoven silk fabrics, that are ideal for the wedding season. The Kadwa silk lehenga took 380 man-hours to make and is perfect for the celebratory memo.
The Sakura line brings together Banarasi craft traditions with Japanese lacquerware art as the collection features distinct influences from both cultures. The floral brocade detailing in several of the pieces are inspired by Japanese cherry blossoms. “The handwork done on the textiles of this collection represent our weaver's exploration and their freedom of imagination and craft. Both flora and fauna have been the key insignias of Banarasi textiles and are also rooted strongly in the Japanese culture,” team Ekaya shared on their social media.
