Last week a Tik Tok user went viral when she revealed that a feature on her iPhone let her hear what her friends said about her back. “Thinking about the time I turned on ‘live listen’ on my iPhone & left my phone on the table & walked away with my AirPods in so that I could listen to what everyone said without me being in the room,” Tik Tok user Michelle Guo wrote in her video.
Live Listen was introduced in 2014 to let iPhone users with hearing aids hear others easily in crowded or noisy spaces. The setting basically allows an iPhone or iPad to act as a microphone. It initially only worked with iPhone-compatible hearing aids but has expanded to work with AirPods as well. Several users pointed out that this feature indeed works, while Guo urged Apple users to use this sneaky hack responsibly. “Settings > Control Center > add Hearing > connect AirPods > turn on Live Listen > place phone down & walk away & listen,” she added.
