Rukmini Maitra’s next could be her most challenging role yet. The Sanak star is set to play iconic Bengali thespian Nati Binodini in Ram Kamal Mukherjee’s upcoming biopic Binodiini - Ekti Natir Upakhyan. Also known as Binodini Dasee, the theatre star started acting at the age of 12, under the mentorship of Girish Chandra Ghosh. Over a span of 12 years, Binodini played a plethora of roles, from Sita and Draupadi to Motibibi.
In the poster for the film, Rukmini’s Binodini plays Chaitanya, a nod to Binodini’s role as a young Sri Chaitanya, often considered to be her most prolific performance. “To me, this is not just cinema, but a tribute to the ‘Queen of Indian Stage’ who carved the way and inspired many generations of artists. A story untold, a Woman's journey amidst patriarchy to Unfold. Need All Your Best Wishes, Blessings, Love & Support for this,” Rukmini wrote on Instagram.
