The story behind the birth of tennis jewellery is one of the most amusing tales in fashion history. It’s widely believed that when 18-time Grand Slam winner Chris Evert lost her diamond bracelet during the 1987 US Open, she helped coin the term when she referred to her missing jewellery as the ‘tennis bracelet.’ Subsequently, designers started producing sleek, breathy, wearable jewellery and referred to them as tennis necklaces or tennis earrings.
Tennis jewellery usually features a symmetrical arrangement of stones, lined up on a thin chain. Luxury label Drip Project updated this low-key jewellery to add a dash of drama with its line of tennis chains which are clustered chains, flooded with layers of hand-set stones. Buyers can also find a range of sizes, between 16 inches to 24 inches.
