Did you know that Zohra Sehgal, the celebrated Indian actor, dancer and theatre personality, who lived to 102, now has a much-needed biography?

The book, ‘Zohra!’, written by Ritu Menon and published by Speaking Tiger, covers Zohra’s remarkable journey from her aristocratic roots in Rampur to her pioneering roles in Indian and British arts and entertainment. Zohra Mumtazullah Khan travelled to Germany to learn modern dance at the age of 18, choosing tradition over adventure. She continued to defy conventions and was closely associated with transformative initiatives in the arts.

Her biography recalls her work at the Prithvi Theatre and her struggles during the Partition. The book is divided into four parts, each corresponding to a phase of Zohra’s life, and includes two intermissions and a curtain call. It is a tribute to Zohra’s spirit, talent, and legacy, as well as a fascinating glimpse into the history of the arts in India and abroad. If you are at Bahrisons, do remember to pick your copy!
