‘Three Sisters’ by Heather Morris

Inspired by a true story of survival after Nazi Germany

Published 18.11.21, 08:41 AM

From the internationally acclaimed author of titles like The Tattooist of Auschwitz and Cilka’s Journey comes another tale set against the backdrop of Nazi Germany.

After surviving the inhumane conditions of the concentration camp at Auschwitz, three Solvakian sisters – Livia, Cibi and Magda – manage to escape during the Death March of Auschwitz. They take refuge in a forest until they are rescued, and sent back home, where a life of freedom awaits them. Determined to start afresh, the sisters decide to relocate to Israel. However, being free comes with its own struggles, and as the sisters battle their nightmarish past, they must also learn to navigate the new challenges that life throws their way. Peppered with vivid imagery and details that bring the characters to life, the story of these sisters is interwoven with the tales of protagonists from Morris’ previous novels – Lale, Gita and Cilka.

Published by St. Martin’s Press, the book has been written based on the stories of two out of the three sisters who continue to live in Israel today. Evocatively written, with moments of quiet reflection upon the human condition, The Three Sisters explores life after the near-death experience of Nazi concentration camps.
