The writer of the critically acclaimed The Underground Railroad, which received the Pulitzer Prize for fiction in 2017 and spawned the successful Amazon Prime series of the same name, is out with a new book. A crime story that unravels in the neighbourhood of Harlem in New York City, Harlem Shuffle is set in the 1960s. The story follows the character of Ray Carney — a man whose life is split between respectable and murky — as he attempts to maintain a spotless reputation in order to protect his loved ones from the reality of his dual life.
In 2020, Colson Whitehead had joined the likes of William Faulkner, Booth Tarkington and John Updike, receiving his second Pulitzer Prize for Fiction for The Nickel Boys. Will Harlem Shuffle bring him a hat-trick? Read and decide for yourself!
