Summer vacations are just round the corner, and if you are already thinking of ways to keep your little ones occupied during the holidays, then this picture book by Ruskin Bond might be a fun option.
Published by Talking Club, Granny’s Tree-Climbing is an entertaining poem narrated from the perspective of a little boy, who describes his grandmother’s various shenanigans pegged around her love for climbing trees. The poem describes how the narrator’s Granny harboured an affection for trees and spent much of her young years climbing them without a care in the world. Through the voice of his young narrator, Bond describes how Granny’s penchant for climbing refused to mellow down with age and was a source of great concern for her family members. In the poem, he attempts to chart out a solution to this unique problem, so that Granny could go back to climbing trees without worrying her loved ones!
Written in Bond’s trademark simple yet engaging style, Granny’s Tree-Climbing is not only enjoyable but also offers a lesson in how people should be allowed to pursue what they love, regardless of age. The illustrations by Ekta Bharti are vivid, colourful and play their part in bringing alive the characters in the minds of young readers.
