An anthology on adulting

The book is reminiscent of the Chicken Soup for the Soul series

Penguin Books’s Big Mistake: An Anthology on Growing Up and Other Tough Stuff is a reliable and friendly guide to adulting for those in their late teens, who anticipate this phase with a mix of dread and excitement. The book contains an assortment of fiction, nonfiction and poetry spanning different walks of life, including from well-known names like Saina Nehwal, Nandana Dev Sen, Andaleeb Wajid and Nikhil Taneja. Shaheen Bhatt’s foreword lays the foundation for the chapters that follow, which revolve around love, heartbreak, fears, failures and so on. The pieces are written to comfort, inspire and reassure while also encouraging readers to start conversations around important issues related to identity, body positivity, careers and some of the ‘Other Tough Stuff’ that young adults often have to encounter.

A special shoutout to Kolkata girl Anusha Misra for her short story The Crip Gang, where she writes about being a physically disabled individual with a mental illness, accepting and loving herself, having light blue hair and finding friendship.
