It’s fitting that Kewpie’s should reopen its doors during pujas in Kolkata. (Read about it here.)
It has, after all, been synonymous with authentic Bengali food. Dive into your “pet-pujo” with a classic you’ll never be tired of: the Elish Bhape. Not least because a change of season looms ahead and we’re running out of time with the much-coveted hilsa.
While Kewpie’s new menu features both vegetarian and non-vegetarian “thala” options, the Elish Bhape is a special delicacy on the a la carte menu. This fat cut of fish is steamed and derives all its flavour from the dense mustard-and-chilli gravy. The flesh is soft and flaky and an added drizzle of mustard oil simply enhances its intrinsic flavour. Garnished with green chillies slit down the centre to make it just a little hotter, all you need with this dish is a bowl of steamed rice.
