The nurses alleged that while one with a diploma should receive Level-12 pay, they get Level-9 pay.

A leader of Nurses Unity, the organisation that has given the call for the rally, said the minister of state for health, Chandrima Bhattacharya, met them in December 2021.

“She had promised that we will be paid according to our qualifications,” said Parbati Paul, the president of Nurses Unity.

Minister Bhattacharya told The Telegraph on Monday evening that she did not promise the nurses that their demands would be met. “I heard them out. I never promised them anything,” she said.
