Great hors d'oeuvres make great parties. Whether you’re hosting an intimate BFFs brunch or a streaming night, a good party platter with the right cheese, bread and finger foods can make you the Martha Stewart of your social circle.

From vibrant antipasti boards to mezze platters and grazing boards, Kolkata chefs are offering it all (sometimes even on a weekend’s notice!). So, if you have hosting duties on the horizon, bookmark these Kolkata brands to source some gorgeous and hearty party-ready platters:

Rosemary by Varnika

“People in Kolkata are extremely fond of pampering their friends and relatives on special occasions. They are always looking for something unique to send over and that makes for a great market,” says Varnika Pasari, who started Rosemary by Varnika in 2016, while she was still in college.

Her brand specialises in grazing boards and platters that combine snacks and appetisers, making the whole experience engaging (her Mediterranean grazing board is a crowd favourite). Her boards are customisable and embellished with flowers and herbs. Each component is delicately arranged to ensure the natural colours of the food complement each other.

“Some of our top-sellers are Assorted Pita Bread, Falafel, Grilled Halloumi, The Taco Bar with 7 dips & toppings, Crostini Bar with various toppings like Mushroom, Avocado, Olive, Truffle Burrata Salad, Zucchini Feta Rolls, Mini Pizza and Crispy Polenta Bites,” shares Varnika.

“Kolkatans are very happy to try new cuisines and Lebanese food has really picked up,” says Khaitan.

Her mezze platters focusses on elements of spectacle. They are grand, delicious and shareable. Along with these, she also specialises in Asian meals and mezze cheese boards that ensure you have the perfect wine-n-cheese party at home without any hassle.

“For a house party, my mezze cheese boards with the crackers and dips are a huge hit. People could order some fun salads and starters too,” recommends Pallavi.

Meraki Cheese

If you love a good cheese grazing board, you need to explore Arpita Nag’s label Meraki Cheese. Nag is an artisanal cheesemaker from Kolkata who creates delicious grazing boards ideal for a wine-and-cheese party.

“We have a mezze-inspired platter, it lines up fresh Mediterranean flavours with olives, rose petals, cranberry and a great hummus-style goat cheese dip. It also has freshly baked bread made by us,” Nag shares.

Nag makes non-synthetic cheeses that are free of emulsifiers. From pickled feta to halloumi (semi-hard brined cheese) and even excellent matured gouda, all variants are meticulously aged by the cheesemaker in her studio.

“We have grazing boxes where there are four types of cheeses — a pickled feta, a goat cheese along with aged cheese and a flavoured aged cheese. This box is great for four people to share,” she tells us.
