If we had to give an award for the most OTT hooded outfit, it would go to RIHANNA. The Rockstar made a grand entry at Met Gala earlier this month wearing a beautiful Valentino number that comprised a giant floral hoodie as a part of her bridal look that paid tribute to the iconic Karl Lagerfeld. Later, RiRi took off the hood to flaunt her baby bump in a strappy gown.

Fashion enthusiasts the world over wait eagerly all year for the Cannes Film Festival in the French Riviera to see their favourite stars walk the red carpet in statement-ey outfits. Some of these outfits go down in history among the best appearances at Cannes, while others remain ignored for being blah, and some of them end up being fodder for memes. When we think of Indian stars at Cannes, AISHWARYA RAI BACHCHAN’s name comes up tops, for having pulled off one ethereal look after the other at the prestigious red carpet in past years. This year, too, all eyes were eagerly trained on the Cannes carpet to see what Ash would wear on her 21st year at Cannes. Her first appearance at Cannes this year on May 18 in a shimmery hooded gown with a giant black bow from Sophie Couture left many perplexed. Although Ash picked up one of the hottest trends right now — hooded gowns — but the outfit somehow did not compliment her and was too outlandish for Cannes (we think it would have been a better fit at the Met Gala where OTT is the way to go!). While the shimmery hood scored high on the trend-o-meter, the flat hair, red lips and the giant hood did her no good and made her look like a sack.

Wearing a headto-toe sequinned Ralph Lauren gown with a hood, multitalented JANELLE MONAE’s OOTN at the Oscars this year didn’t go unnoticed. A voluminous floor-length skirt, full sleeves and she completed the bling look with a choker and finger rings.

THAKUR drew lukewarm response to her sartorial choices initially, but the situation was salvaged by this beautiful Anamika Khanna hooded couture. The gorgeous beige handcrafted high-low skirt with a full-sleeve top had a long hood attached to it and she did look gorgeous in it.

Channelling her inner Wednesday Adams vibes, actress JENNA ORTEGA wore a classy backless hooded dress at the Saint Laurent menswear show in Paris, earlier this year. A hint of kohl and bangs peeping out of her hood made her look sharp.

CARDI B attended the 65th Annual Grammy Awards in Los Angeles in February, making a roaring statement wearing our very own Gaurav Gupta. The electric blue not only complemented her skin tone, the structural hooded body-hugging gown with galactic sequins made her one of the best-dressed celebs.

Another celeb who opted for the hooded trend was co-chair of this year’s Met Gala, PENELOPE CRUZ. The veteran actress looked ethereal as a fairytale bride wearing a classic ball gown in pale blue. The hood is one of the prettiest in recent times, adorned with sequins, pearls and stones that lend a feminine touch.

Super model BELLA HADID has been rocking the hooded trend not once but multiple times at several events but one of our all-time fave would be the red hooded gown from Schiaparelli’s spring 2023 collection that she wore in Qatar. We loved how the hood doubled up as cowl neck. Bold and mysterious, we love!

ANNE HATHAWAY looked regal at Bvlgari’s recent event in a gorgeous Atelier Versace gown in silver and gold. The interesting part of the outfit was, it had a detachable and matchy hood that she wore initially and then took it off. Accessorised with Bvlgari’s stunning jewellery, the actress sparkled and how!

One of the best hooded look this year at the Bafta was of The Queen’s Gambit star ANYA TAYLOR-JOY’s. She chose French fashion house Schiaparelli’s bandeau mini dress with a long cape-hood in velvet that touched the floor. Big ups for keeping the dress short else the humongous cape-hood would have made her look bulky and boring.
