World Cup fever is on! And here’s where Kolkata watched the semi-final action

As India took on New Zealand in the first knockout game, Kolkata pubs and eateries served the action live with sip & bite options

1/7 India is playing New Zealand in the first of the semi-final matches at Mumbai’s Wankhede Stadium today. After today’s match and tomorrow’s semi-final between Australia and South Africa at the Eden Gardens, the final ODI will take place on Sunday, November 19, at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. India was knocked out of the 2019 World Cup race in a thrilling match against New Zealand, making today’s match that much more interesting.

2/7 Cobo Asian Skybar & Brewery, Park Street area: One of the newest breweries in the city, Cobo Asian Skybar & Brewery hosted the screening of the India-NZ semi-final from 2pm. Groups of friends turned up to watch the match — this cricket fan could not keep his eyes off the screen, even as the table’s orders were being served — as the Indian cricket team (with Iyer and Kohli!) swung their sixes! While food and hookah were served to the guests, a special offer during the matches had pitchers of beer available for Rs 1,995

Many turned up in team jerseys to show their support for the men in blue in a match that saw two record centuries — Kohli’s 50th, and Iyer crossing 500 runs with his century in his maiden World Cup

4/7 Social, Park Street: Every branch of Social in India is hosting a screening of the semi-finals. The #DoosraStadium at Kolkata’s Park Street Social set up the screen on the live stage on the first floor, and people turned their chairs towards the screen to get a better view, cheering and clapping every time India batted well. Of course, we are looking at die-hard fans of the star cricketer. Sitting wasn’t enough for those gathered at one8 Commune as King Kohli hit it out of the park with his 50th century. The venue also kept the spirits up for the viewers by curating a special LIIT menu
