Tanusree Shankar pays tribute to her husband and musician Ananda Shankar on the Day 1 of the two-day Annual Demonstration Show of the Tanusree Shankar Dance Academy, as Rajya Sabha MP Jawhar Sircar, chief guest for the evening, looks on. Four hundred students performed in the event at Rabindra Sadan, celebrating the Uday Shankar style of dance, after a pandemic-forced hiatus of two years. Adrian J. A moment from the presentation ‘Aajker Raktakarabi’, based on Rabindranath Tagore’s play ‘Raktakarabi’. Choreographed by Uday Shankar Awardee of 2018, Aritra Sengupta, the act used Afro contemporary dance techniques to highlight the broad diaspora of dance forms practised and performed by the academy. The music for the act was compiled from ‘Sherlock Holmes’, ‘The Godfather’ and the compositions of German film music composer Hans Zimmer, singer-songwriter Sahana Bajpaie and Guns N’ Roses lead guitarist Slash
A performance named ‘The Village Festival’ was also presented by students of senior first year to the music of Ananda Shankar
Unfettered Minds, a re-imagined section from Uday Shankar's 'Man and Machine', from his film ‘Kalpana’, was also performed. Choreographed by Tanusree Shankar, this piece was originally presented by the second-year students of Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance in London in June 2022
